September Whitman Updates

McGuiggan’s and the Patio Sale

We have more information about the two restaurants in the center of town changing hands. The new owner is an experienced restauranteur, operating Martini’s in Plymouth, and he plans to turn the Patio into a sister restaurant under the Martini’s brand. The Pub will be rebranded as the Alibi Tavern. The last day of operations under the current owners will be October 6th.

Selecting New School Committee Members

The Whitman Select Board and Whitman Hanson Regional School Committee outlined the selection process in meetings on back to back nights. Due to 13 applicants expressing interest, and Counsel’s advice that the process be completed in a single night to avoid open meeting law violations, each applicant will be given 10 minutes to speak about themselves, and members of the two boards will not be asking questions. The entire process will be completed Tuesday October 1 at 6pm.

South Shore Tech Regional Agreement

Superintendent Tom Hickey presented to the Select Board the proposed change to the SSVT Regional Agreement. It is a change to the formula to calculate debt service payments, instead of locking in all parties at the time the debt is borrowed the payment is calculated based on a rolling average 4-year enrollment. In English? If it passes and the SSVT School project passes at the ballot Whitman would not be locked into the highest payment of all 9 member towns for the duration of the debt.
