Whitman COVID Update December 28, 2020
Whitman COVID Update:
I haven't updated in a while because not much has changed, and I tended to time these posts with reopening notifications. Unfortunately we're going in the opposite direction right now. Both new cases and positive test rates continue to be high.
The closest Stop the Spread test site near us is right on our border at Massasoit Community College. You can get tested at many other locations but these state sponsored sites are free and open to anyone.
Testing is drive through, and open Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 7AM to 11AM and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday from 2PM to 7PM.
Masks must be worn in all public spaces by order of the Governor. Including at all times in gyms, when in your office outside of your own workspace, and inside restaurants except when eating or drinking.
As you probably heard, capacity limits are getting more restrictive. Most offices, restaurants, and small businesses are limited to 25% capacity. Private residences and other indoor gatherings are limited to 10 persons. Learn more at https://www.mass.gov/info-details/temporary-capacity-and-gathering-limits
The State is offering more small business relief grants. If you own a business you might be eligible. Check online at https://www.empoweringsmallbusiness.org/
Town Hall remains open by appointment only. Call ahead and someone will meet you for a temperature screening at the handicap entrance. The drop box on the side of the building remains available and is checked regularly.
Whitman-Hanson went remote for a few days before Christmas but plans to return to the hybrid model next week.
CARES funding has been making its way to Whitman, with almost $400,000 received to date and much more submitted for approval.
The Whitman Emergency Management Agency, with the Board of Health, is preparing for Phase 3 Vaccine distribution to Whitman residents. The current timeline would suggest the spring, but this is very much not set in stone.
Phase 1 vaccine distribution has begun, and I know a few Whitman residents who are frontline healthcare workers that have received the first doses.

I've also set up a page of COVID-19 related resources. It can be found at https://votejustinevans.com/covid19
Please be careful. Social distance and wash your hands. Stay home if you feel sick. Testing is still widely available in MA, so if you traveled or expanded your "bubble" over the Holidays get tested and know for sure.
We're in this together. If you have any questions or concerns my email is open jevans@whitman-ma.gov
Stay safe,
Justin
